On September 26, 1973, Captain Lorraine Potter made HERstory by becoming the 1st US Air Force Chaplain. When Capt. Potter first applied for the position, she was told only men could serve as the US Air Force Chaplain. Several weeks later, the gender requirement was dropped (why did it take so long?), and Capt. Potter earned the title. Praise be!
