Gloria Steinem's Speech at NPC
On January 24,1972, Gloria Steinem made HERstory by receiving a standing ovation for her speech at the National Press Club. From 1908 until 1955, Women reporters were banned from attending any NPC event. The all-male club "allowed" Women inside after 1955, BUT the Women had to bring their own lunch (brown-bag) & sit in the balcony... quietly... without asking any questions. As the Women reporters sat quietly in the balcony, the male reporters dined in the ballroom & were permitted to ask any question they wished. 'tis true!
