The Birth of Beatrix Potter
On July 28, 1866, Beatrix Potter was born. Before becoming a successful author in a time when Women weren't even allowed to vote, Beatrix had a passion for botany. She wanted to pursue her passion professionally, but faced continual rejection because she was a Woman. She started writing & illustrating children's stories, with her first book being The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Twenty more successful books followed. Beatrix was a savvy entrepreneur, patenting the Peter Rabbit doll in 1903. But, Beatrix wasn't done yet. She used her self-made fortune to buy a small farm & became a champion sheep breeder. Beatrix made HERstory in 1943 by becoming the 1st Woman President of the Herdwick Sheep Breeder's Assoc. Take that!
