Hazel Schmoll

🌿✨ On 23.August.1890, Hazel Schmoll was born, and she would go on to make HERstory more than once.

Hazel became the first Woman to earn a doctorate in botany from the University of Chicago in 1932 at a time when society was still busy telling Women their place was anywhere but the lab. She ignored the noise and chose science anyway. 🎓🔥

She didn’t stop there. Hazel became the first person to conduct a systematic study of plant life in southwestern Colorado, mapping, cataloging, and documenting species in rugged, often unforgiving terrain. Think fieldwork before GPS, before easy access, before anyone thought a Woman should be out there doing it. 🌄💪

Her legacy is literally rooted in the land; she discovered and documented rare species, including Astragalus schmolliae (Schmoll’s milkvetch), a plant named in her honor. 🌸✨

And she wasn’t just a scientist... Hazel was also a conservationist and educator, working to protect native ecosystems and share her knowledge with future generations. 🌎🌱

The verdict? Brilliant. Bold. Unstoppable.
Hazel Schmoll didn’t just study plants... she planted her name in history. 🌿👑
